Portraits

I had to adjust my original plan because of a last-minute schedule change, so I couldn’t do it exactly how I wanted at first. Still, I worked with international students from my tennis team. 

Since I couldn’t photograph six people, the four who helped me posed twice. In the first photo, I asked them to talk about the experience of leaving their home country. In the second, I asked them to share one of their best memories since arriving at Bethel.

In the first photo, their expressions are more distant or melancholic. But in the second, I captured the moment their faces changed as they remembered a happy memory, most of them involved friends, and laughter made those moments special.
